Originally comissioned in the late 19th century as an aristocratic private residence, Villa Poseidon reflects the romantic architectural style traditionally found in Sintra’s historic residences. When Encinali Studio acquired the property, it had been left in a state of abandonment following years of use as a hostel, during which the interior layout was fragmented and altered from its original intent.
The renovation focused on returning the house to its role as a private residence, preserving the original structure and exterior expression while reorganizing the interior to support everyday living. The ground floor was reconfigured into an open sequence of kitchen, dining, living, and family spaces, with private living quarters relocated to the upper levels. The basement was recovered and repurposed to accommodate a cinema, sauna, and wine cellar, with material choices and detailing approached with restraint to ensure comfort, durability, and a timeless result consistent with the house’s character.
